Innovations in Community Wildfire Preparation

REDI 2026 is designed to build collaboration and sharing while engaging participants in meaningful dialogue about how communities are preparing for fires and storms.
Our format is based on a model that we refined in running more than a dozen conferences for sustainability leaders, called Green Wave, which was focused on preventing global warming. This event is focused on adapting to climate change — helping communities become more resilient.
This is not your typical conference. We curate the participants and talk with each person before the event, helping to establish an environment of collaboration and thoughtful dialogue. We’ll have several short (10-minute) presentations followed by 15-minute break-out groups, giving each participant a chance to introduce themselves, meet other people and engage in a focused conversation.
How to Prepare for the Event
If you are selected, you need to prepare. Our format has been called “speed dating for leaders,” so be ready to introduce yourself in about ten seconds. Over the course of the event, as we break into small groups, you’ll meet new people and be asked to reflect on questions such as these:
What is your community doing to prepare? What interesting or innovative approaches has your community applied (or considered) in preparing for fires or storms? What appears to be working?
What are your core challenges? What seems to be getting in the way?
In a perfect world, how would the insurance industry help your community better prepare?
Who are the other key stakeholders in your community and what can they do to help? How can they be engaged or motivated?
How are you objectively measuring the progress of your community? How would you rate the overall readiness of your community, on scale of 0 to 100?
In preparing for the event, just think about these questions. You do not need to have a formal response.
