Why crowdsource fire preparation?
Technology leaders have crowdsourced many industries, helping us book a hotel, buy a house, rent a car, find a mate, and so on. Social technology can break down barriers and create transparency while connecting us in ways that are novel and powerful.
Why not use the same approach to prepare communities for fires, storms and drought? We all bear the responsibility for preparation and the cost of these events, so we all should be involved in preparing, doing whatever we can do to reduce the risk.
The time is right to focus on wildfires. Fires are becoming hotter and more frequent. Fire officials don’t have the resources to fully prepare communities, and our national forest service is downsizing.
Let’s use social technology — and the power of the insurance industry — to protect communities while reducing financial risk.
